On the 6th Nov 2008 a couple announced their resignation from church leadership. They could no longer remain because:-
- Of the nature and character of senior leadership post-sabbatical
- Of the lack of “processing” that had been allowed within the leadership team with reference to approval and implementation of new changes
- Senior leadership had moved from a relational model to a hierarchical (top-down end-state) model
- During a recent service, they had led, they were totally undermined and belittled by senior leadership
I was asked (jokingly) if I was leaving the church, as well. I responded by saying that there had been a number of times in the past two years we had considered it and I shared the concerns of many about the nature and character of leadership, since the church went independent. I went on to say that there was no such thing as the perfect church and we would continue to pray for and support leadership until such time as we could no longer support the aims, vision and ethos of the church (Floyd McClung comments that at such times it is better to move on than cause a division).
