Himalayan Black Bear (Hagen 2004)
Crossing a wooded mountain pass at dusk I ran into two Himalayan Black Bears at very close range. I was never so scared in all my life
The Lord reminded me
- of David in 1 Samuel 17:34-35 “Your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it”.
- of a prophetic word/picture about protection I had received at my valedictory service
A lone “figure” (on a mission) appeared out of nowhere, with all the appearance (human form) of a Nepali man. He emanated peace and calm and the bears did not harm us. The “figure” disappeared as quickly as he had appeared
Later I asked the Lord why he had allowed the close encounter with bears. The understanding I received was that
- I had been presumptuous of his protection
- My confidence was in myself
- I had assumed I was just going on a field trip and I had forgotten my mandate from Josh 1:3 “I will give you every place where you set your feet”
