I was asked to represent our old church on London Citizens (a faith and non faith social action group). I studied the literature and prayed about involvement. I felt quite strongly that the Lord was saying to me “right issues but wrong forum”. Do not get me wrong I believe that Christians need to speak out in Gods name about social injustice in a prophetic way but I did not feel that, for me, London Citizens was the right forum. I repeatedly told the church leadership that they needed to seek a mandate for the churches involvement
In addition to the guidance I received we had the following questions about London’s Citizens which the church failed to address
- In whose name were we engaging in social action (Jesus, Allah, Secular Humanism)
- Were we being “unequally yoked” with unbelievers
- Isn’t the LC social action predicated on democracy (the rule of the people by the people for the people)
- Did the church have a specific mandate from the Lord to participate in LC
I remained true to my guidance and declined any involvement with LC
